Reading all of this makes me unceasingly glad not to be involved in OP politics anymore. I regret that when I moved here four years ago, I had wide eyed optimism that my law career and serving on many County committees would be helpful and perhaps I could contribute. That, of course, did not end well.
I thought Esther's group sounded like a good idea. Yeah, let's all get involved. Then, I was suddenly booted and I never knew why but believed it had something to do with me being on the Board. I am certainly not naive enough to believe that this doesn't happen everywhere. I was just disappointed to live in a community when my life and those of my family and pets are threatened. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that. But, now my life is peaceful being an attorney for children who are bruised and beaten by adults. Now, I find myself involved in something that matters. And, Joe, I thank you for your kindness in appreciating the limited contributions I was able to make. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: but what was quoted by Sherrie as her mission for her group would make having directors in the group seem counterproductive. So what? Much ado about nothing. In over 30 years of watching OPA boards and OPA politics, I have watched many claim to know how to “fix” whatever OPA ills they perceive. All have failed. Truth be told, in most instances they made things worse. My probably feeble, perhaps impossible, suggestion? Change the governing documents so that the board has a single authority - hire and fire a GM. Either action takes a super majority. No meetings other than to hire or fire a GM. GM holds a monthly town hall to tell board and association members what he or she is doing. Board members each get five minutes to ask GM questions. Association members present each get 10 minutes to ask GM questions. |
