Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Perrone Resigns As OPA Treasurer Msg# 1165082

When I don't know an answer, I have always been able to get it without directing staff.
This has nothing to do with you. The above is at least the second time you have mentioned “directing staff” regarding this issue. Perrone NEVER directed staff to do anything, so why are you injecting this into the discussion? You should know Perrone did not direct staff. Perrone initially wrote: “I have been asked if we are currently at goal with our reserves. Can you send me the most recent reserve reconciliation report so I can respond.” That was sent to the GM and Steve Phillips with a copy to Colette Horn. Please explain why such a request for information is directing staff. The first response to the OPA Treasurer was from the GM, who wrote: “send the question to info@oceanpines.org copying the person who requested and copy Steve and me.” The response included copies to all board members. Perrone replied to all: “I’m sending the question to you and Steve. Send the report and I’ll respond to the person who inquired. I am the treasurer of the association.” The GM then replied: “You are directing staff. Please direct the question to info @oceanpines copying the individual who asked you and as always an answer will be delivered.” PERRONE replies: “So as Treasurer of the association you don't believe I should be getting this report? I'll discuss it with Colette and the community member who is requesting the info.” GM response is: “oh you want a report, sorry thought you said you received a question. Tell me exactly what reports you want.” Perhaps it should have ended there, if not earlier. Colette Horn then joins in and writes: “John, please make the report available to our Treasurer. Larry, please forward the member’s question to info@oceanpines.org. “ Larry responds: “I suggest you review the duties of the Treasurer in the by-laws and then point me to the section of the by-laws that grants you authority to prohibit the Treasurer or any board member from answering a financial question from a community member. If you have decided to appoint the GM as the Treasurer, maybe I should resign the office.” Horn replies: “There is nothing in the bylaws that either grants or prohibits the Treasurer authority to answer questions. The role is oversight and carrying out other duties assigned by the board. For the benefit of the Association, IMO, we need to have one voice answering financial questions. You do what you want but realize that a real consequence of having more than one voice is confusion that then must be addressed. Info@oceanpines.org has worked effectively to minimize confusion, and I see no reason not to use it. Disciplined communication is a best business practice, the goal we all expressed for this organization when we took on our duties.” Perrone resigns as Treasurer.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I certainly wasn't answering for Mr. Perrone but only explaining my experience. When I don't know an answer, I have always been able to get it without directing staff. I also have the opportunity to bring any questions or concerns or topic to the Board President to discuss at the weekly GM meeting. I listened again to the public comments. I understood that the homeowner was not suggesting bike/walking lanes in the median, but perhaps median strips could be redesigned in places to allow for a bigger shoulder that would make biking/walking safer. |
