I understood that the homeowner was not suggesting bike/walking lanes in the median, but perhaps median strips could be redesigned in places to allow for a bigger shoulder that would make biking/walking safer.
Here is what she actually said: "Interestingly we have a median strip all around the Ocean Parkway, and this is absolutely loevely, but it is certainly property that could be redesigned and looked at in terms of biking and pedestrian thruway. It doesn't mean we have to eliminate the aesthetic value of that median strip, but it is certainly a piece of property that we should see if it is being used as best it could be right now." Of interest, she prefaced her remarks mentioning how home rentals in Ocean Pines on some Facebook site have a poor rating for biking paths. There are no dedicated bike lanes on any roads in Ocean Pines. Perhaps never should be, based on what the police chief had to say. Apparently, it is illegal to park any vehicle in any dedicated bike lane. Thus, the police could possibly start writing tickets for almost any vehicle stopped or parked along Ocean Parkway. How does whatever she proposes not impact the aesthetic value of the median strip? All this emanates from a Strategic Planning Committee that repeatedly states that OPA "lacks diversity" as though this was an issue the Board of Directors should address in some fashion. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I certainly wasn't answering for Mr. Perrone but only explaining my experience. When I don't know an answer, I have always been able to get it without directing staff. I also have the opportunity to bring any questions or concerns or topic to the Board President to discuss at the weekly GM meeting. I listened again to the public comments. I understood that the homeowner was not suggesting bike/walking lanes in the median, but perhaps median strips could be redesigned in places to allow for a bigger shoulder that would make biking/walking safer. |
