I believe Glen Riddle has 650 homes.
OPA has 8400 homes. Worcester County ran water lines from OP to Glenn Riddle on the premise that each subdivision could benefit in the event of an emergency. It would be interesting to know how any emergency in OP might benefit from a Glenn Riddle water system that was built to handle 650 homes and amenities. Worcwester County ran, or is about to run, a sewer line connection between Glenn Riddle and OP on the same lame premise. As a practical matter, Worcester County modified the OP system so that it can be used by Glen Riddle as a backup system. There is a County committee for the Ocean Pines Water and Wastewater system. It was created back in 1995 or so for the sole purpose of having a group of individuals oversee/advise the operation and ensure those in the service area were treated fairly. That committee is now useless. They meet monthly. Meetings are not announced. Finding minutes is virtually impossible. In general, it rubber stamps what the count wants. The Worcester County Commissioners promised on a stack of bibles (to exaggerate) that all the money spent on expanding the OPA sewage treatment plant was only to provide capacity for the Ocean Pines subdivision. Fourth of July weekends are generally the only times the plant receives peak flows. Recent July 4 weekends saw sewage treatment flow at around one-half the total capacity of the plant our sewage bills paid to build. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: After looking at my sorry lawn for the last ten years, I decided to put in new sod. The installer warned me to water it every other day until it takes root. Being me, I skipped a day or two and it started turning grey. I apologize to the rest of South OP for my thoughtlessness daring to plant sod at this strategic time. Not so much you Riddle Farms. But who knew?? Some of us did. I have joined Joe in warning about this neighborly sharing of W&S facilities. But what do I know? I only ran the operation for a half dozen years. |
