All beyond my knowledge. Are you saying that no electricity produced by the MarWin project will be delivered or used in Maryland? Seems to me there is nothing unusual about electricity distribution from various sources over wide area.
The $6 billion, roughly 339-mile-long transmission line will connect a substation in La Prairie, near Montreal, to a converter station in Astoria, Queens. The line will be able to deliver enough energy to serve more than a million homes in New York City Here is a link to what looks like a rather comprehensive look at the MarWin project. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, It was a comment based on the system configuration. To get actual numbers you would have to do a load flow analysis and those flows are influenced by the area load, other generation running or not running and the transmission system configuration (what lines in are or are out for maintenance or construction). My understanding is that they will be running a 230kV (AC) cable from substations out on the water to a new substation by the Indian River Power Plant. I think there was a hearing last week in Sussex County about the new substation. The power from the wind turbines will be injected into Delmarva Power's 230kV system. You can't direct AC power flows, it is like water, it follows the path of least resistance or impedance. At Indian River there are two or three 230kV transmission lines running to the north and only one line running south to Piney Grove Substation (near Rte 12). Lines from Piney Grove Substation primarily feed areas south of Salisbury and Virginia. Ocean City and surrounding areas are fed at 138kV from the north and 69kV from the west to south Ocean City. So to get here, the power would have to go through one autotransformer to get to 138kV and another transformation to get to 69kV. It would also have to run once transformed from Indian River to Ocean City along various paths. |
