It certainly is an issue that merits discussion but one I think is a little more complicated than it appears on first glance.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: In hotter Charleston SC they pick up one time a week. The cost of labor and fuel is what it’s all about. Get used to it. I am surprised that it isn’t that way now with the number of part time residents in this community I thought the same when I moved to the Pines 20+ years ago from a community that had once a week trash pickup and every other week recycle. I would suspect that is pretty much the standard around the country. However I did find that Ocean Pines is not the same type community from which most of us came. We live in one of the top tourist destinations in Maryland, 50% of the property owners in the Pines are non-residents with many homes short term rentals like Airbnb's and likely to grow as evidenced by Berlin and OC currently grappling with the issue that has parking and trash as two of the main concerns. As for the trash schedule one has to realize that converting to once a week pickup could lead to trash sitting at the curb more often throughout the community due to renters leaving, for instance, on a Tuesday in the Northside where PU is Monday and the trash would then sit at the curb for a week if PU was changed to once a week. We would also lose the extra leaf PU each week which is a real plus in the Fall. It certainly is an issue that merits discussion but one I think is a little more complicated than it appears on first glance.
