Probably goes for most of us -- maybe even Teddy to a degree in his day. 

That said, the dumbing down of public discourse, even on what is passed for TV "news" and on places like Facebook, is discouraging.

Practically speaking, society has essentially reached the lowest common denominator when it comes to public language - written or spoken.
