One contributing factor, it seems to me, is the lack of tolerance for opposing views. The current tenor of many discussions, regardless of the medium, boils down to "I am right, you are wrong and therefore you are foolish, an idiot, my enemy or part of some sort of cabal or conspiracy.
Perhaps, but generally, I can't agree 100%. Personal attacks can be used whether vulgarity is used or not. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, i agree with your thoughts about the current level of public discussion.
