OCEAN PINES WATER AND WASTEWATER ADVISORY BOARD 1000 Shore Lane Berlin, Maryland 21811 June 21, 2007 The Honorable James Purnell, President Worcester County Commissioners Government Center - Room 1103 One West Market Street Snow Hill, Maryland 21863 Re: Riddle Farm, Ocean Pines Water Interconnection Dear Commissioner Purnell: At today’s meeting of the Ocean Pines Advisory Board, the board unanimously agreed that the County should begin the design and obtain all needed approvals for interconnecting the Riddle Farm System with Ocean Pines. After reviewing all of the alternatives presented in great detail, the board recommended the waterline be placed under Turville Creek from Bay Point Plantation to Riddle Farm to minimize the construction cost. The Department of Public Works estimates the cost for this to be $350,000. The recommendation to move forward expeditiously was made for a number of reasons, including: • The population of Ocean Pines continues to grow and the need for water also continues to grow bringing the day closer when this supplemental supply is needed. • Both Bay Point Plantation and Riddle Farm have few or no established homes in the area of the interconnection, minimizing disruption to established homes. • We need to know sooner rather than later what regulatory obstacles or inter service area agreements are needed to make this happen. • Today’s contracting climate could see competitive construction prices reduce the cost for this work. At this point, we recommend funding the design/permitting and bidding from the funds paid from Bay Point Plantation for their connection. Once the design and permitting activities are complete, we can better evaluate the project cost and recommend a final funding source. We appreciate your assistance in this matter.
