.......another three minutes is not going to mean inadequate service from the existing southside station. Two issues here - fire and EMS. Three minutes would be that much difference for a fire call. EMS is an entirely different issue. Taking three more minutes to get to an EMS call is the difference between life and death. Really! Every dispatched call on the fire/EMS side of public safety is an emergency. No so on the police side. Now suddenly the fire department can operate out of one facility on 589? Is the entire OPVFD going to operate out of a one new building? Is the southside station going to be disbanded? Someone needs to look at what equipment will be dispatched from this location. If it's just engines or trucks the there is no problem. However removing EMS from it's current White Horse Park area could adversely impact the north side of OP as it relates to EMS calls. Although I do find it interesting that they are considering using the OPA property once considered for auction to build a fire station. Is this land going to be given to the OPVFD gratis or will they purchase the land? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: He has investigated privately owned land on 589 as well as the Ocean Pines parcel which was to be auctioned last year. Now that is interesting. If a new northside fire station can be placed on Route 589 commercial land across from the post office, why not just enlarge the existing southside station and keep everything in one place? The travel time for a fire vehicle from the current soutside fire station to the location of a station on Route 589 would probably be three minutes or less. If the northside can be served adequately from Route 589, another three minutes is not going to mean inadequate service from the existing southside station. At one time Jacki Carey said the northside could be adequately served from the southside station. She later changed her mind, based more on political issues than adequate service. Now suddenly the fire department can operate out of one facility on 589? |
