Section 5: OPA Board Subject: WHP/New Fire House Msg# 572242

Linda, I was not aware we had a Public Affairs Department. Who is the Public Affairs Officer? We don't. We have a Public Relations Department and Teresa Travetello is the head of that department. She is a new employee. If you don't know what is going on, which, by the way, I doubt, then tell us you don't know what is going on. If you know what is what, how could you misspeak? Unfortunately, I misspeak all the time. (Note my error in identifying the Public "Affairs" Department.) Many things are in the works and under study. While I believe it is important to keep the membership informed, misinformation is not good. For example, my friend Nancy refers to the "pond" that we will need for stormwater management at WHP - or is this what she is referring to? Well, the engineers are looking into this and may be able to control stormwater in a manner that will have minimal impact. Do I know this? No. Should I report this? No. When the stormwater management issues are resolved, we should let you know the impacts. As for your question about Bill Zawacki signing the contract, ask Bill Zawacki. For me: well, I do not believe anything was done intentionally to violate anything. If a technical error was made, it can be fixed because the Board is supportive of the intent of agreement made with the OPVFD. There are lots of pros and cons on this entire Community Hall and FD issue. I do not believe seven, three, or even one member of the Board should be speculating individually on this UNLESS he knows all of the facts. I may know a lot of them, but I do not know all of them, so what I say could very well be wrong or misleading. The GM is not our "mouthpiece," but he is the one who has been handling the details and that's how it should be. Bill |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: While I could comment on what I know - or think I know - I believe it would be best if the GM through our Public Affairs Department keep the membership informed. There is just too much potential for a misstatement were Marty or I to speak for OPA. BTW, to respond to Nancy Weber's comment on why the site was changed to the other side of WHP, as I understand it the principal reason was that codes require specific setbacks for fire stations and the site next to the CH along the road did not have the depth to allow for that. Bill: I was not aware we had a Public Affairs Department. Who is the Public Affairs Officer? I don't understand how a member of the BOD could misspeak about such an important issue. Either you know what is going on or you don't. If you do, please share with us. If you don't know what is going on, which, by the way, I doubt, then tell us you don't know what is going on. If you know what is what, how could you misspeak? When did the GM become the mouthpiece for you? I've always known you to be up front with the membership and speak your mind. You haven't avoided comments or questions in the past. What has changed? Also, what is your comment about Bill Zawacki violating the by-laws in signing that contract? Did he or did he not have the BOD's approval? No one seems to want to answer. Regards, Linda |
