When the board said "we need more boat slips" in a generic way, it is not surprising there were no objections. However, when the actual plan was developed, including location of the slips, objections arose. They did not arise first on this forum but from a group of home owners who live in the immediate vicinity and were not members of this forum. There is no "hysteria" in the Beach Club discussions here. There is great concern among some that what they perceive as a valuable amenity will be lost or dramatically changed -- for the worse in their view. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, If you will look again at my post to Stan you will see that its purpose was mainly to agree with Stan's comments re: little particpation in this forum by individuals with positive or neutral viewpoints on board issues/actions. And to explain why, in my opinion, this occurs. My comments and language are a direct reflection of how I feel reading much of what I see in the forum. I am not the politically correct sort and have very few ways of saying "bad info and bad logic". I was not referring to differences of opinion in this regard, but to factually wrong information and arguments built on same. As far as my use of the word "hysteria" is concerned, l have time to make the following couple of examples: 1. I was at a Board of Directors meeting at the end of last year or beginning of this year (I do not keep records) when the results of the automated phone survey of residents/owners was released. There was also information from other reports and surveys. This was a standing-room-only meeting. I clearly remember our board president stating that one very real community need was additional boat slips. He called it "a no-brainer". There was not a word of dissent from anyone in the room. You just got the feeling that everyone agreed based on the "oh yeas" and the 'its about times" that rumbled through the crowd. Subsequent to that meeting this (additional slips) was mentioned in the local freebie papers along with the fact that the study had been started. Then, months later, several people on this forum (who apparently had not been paying attention) suddenly found out about the project and started with what I can only refer to as a hysterical response. Without any facts in hand they were stating that we were going to lose the little beach at the S&R Club, that the small strip of land where birds nest would be torn out, and that the board was somehow doing all this in some underhanded fashion. These people do not need a response from me, they need to think first and get some facts before they make false claims and other misstatements (hey, that is a nice way to put it) here. Further, their comments only serve to further confuse others who also were not paying attention. 2. The "sale of the beach property" forum posts: I do not have time to go back looking at these, but somewhere along the line someone simply mentioned that we had a valuable beach property and that it might be used in some what you might call non-traditional ways to provide cash for other community needs. This grew and grew until the casual observer (or off and on forum visitor) apparently believed that sale of the beach property was something the board was considering. It resulted in several letters from people who seemed to think their world was ending. (The beach property was going to be sold and it was the only or the main reason they moved here. How could the board do this ?). This "hysteria" among a few on this forum resulted in someone standing up at a board meeting and, almost in tears, asking why the beach property was going to be sold or if it was going to be sold. That person, understandibly, had been upset for a while based on false information here and projections made based on that information. Joe, there are people on this forum stating that they contributed to and/or voted for such and such board director and then call that director an "idiot" because the director is not doing what they want him/her to. And then they continue with their own (the only acceptable to them) opinion of what the board should be doing. Also, there were several people here calling for the dropping of our Community Officer position without having any good information as to what this individual does. How would you have like to be the person holding that job and knowing that people who do not know you or what you do,want you fired? How or why should someone with a positive or neutral position on the boards' actions even begin to engage that type person ? I've neither the time or the inclination. And that was my point to Stan concerning the lack of positive or neutral response here. The fact is that the members of our board of directors take their position and responsibilities very seriously and work hard for us. They will not please everyone all the time. Far from it. But they strive to do what they feel is in the best interest of the entire community. Also, their actions generally are based on substantial input from the community or recommendations from committees who gather similar information. Individuals posting messages to this forum have a responsibility to get some reliable information before doing so. |
