I don't know what a majority of OP lot owners might want, but there are no benifits that could convince me to vote for municipal status. I could think of many reasons not to be a municipality. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: At my previous residence, contributions became a big issue when county legislators votes on development issues were found to coorelate very closely with the level of campaign funding they received from developers and real estate lawyers. Following that expose', seven of nine were voted out of office at the next election. I'm not advocating incorporation. And yes, it would cost money. But it would provide TEETH in the form of area exclusively governed by Ocean Pines. It would provide for a Town Council, a Planning Commission and Comprehensive Plan. We already have police, utility, streets, parks & recreation and other typical town departments. I don't know how things work in Maryland, but in Virginia the treatment plant, its debts, operating costs and most importantly its service area boundry would convey to the town upon incorporation. If the incorporated area included say a 500 foot buffer area outside the current boundries of OP, the Pennington project would have needed OP not county approval for the project. I only throw this out as something that might deserve discussion on a wider basis. |
