From: BillZ I totally agree with your statement that the real power is with the planning board. The real power rests in the comprehensive plan which should delinate where, how and when the county intends to develop. Before moving here last July, I was a Planning Commissioner in Leesburg, Virginia. As you may know, its the largest town in the state and is the county seat of the fastest growing county in the nation. Hi Bill, Welcome to Ocean Pines. Maybe you should become a Planning Commissioner here because you have BEEN where it looks as if we are headed and would have lots of good advice about what NOT to do! I Iiterally get lost in Fairfax County now because the roads have been changed so much. Last week I felt like a stranger in a foreign land trying to get from one place to the other! I think that as a community, Ocean Pines is very parochial. Most folks do not seem to know or care what goes on outside our gates. We need to attend public hearings, talk with our commissioners, and become more involved in county politics. Maybe the reason many don't is because people have come here to retire, just enjoy life and not be bothered with civic matters. Maybe they have "been there --done that". There are lots of very bright people here who could make a great deal of difference in how things are run. If we get "done on", it is probably our own fault for not speaking out and turning out at county meetings. Nancy Weber |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Nancy, I agree with you. As I just responded to Joe, I threw the question out to perhaps get a broader discussion on how OP can gain more control of its own destiny. Thats why the currents residents of Loudoun County are shelling out for five to six new schools (at a cost of $15 to $52 Million each) every year to accomodate future residents. Its also why most of its roads function as excellent parking lots. |
