Marty's figures are a projected loss of 204000 dollars
They are not Marty's figures. The number for the loss was presented by the GM at the last board meeting. Bill, this business of trivializing losses of many hundreds of thousands of assessment dollars by dividing by 8440 and then dividing by 52 is pure nonsense. For operational losses alone (no capital) the golf and YC operations will cost association members about $500,000 in the current year. That $500,000 down the sewer would be better spent on maintenance, or a reduction in the assessment. So, we have two businesses losing $500,000 this year and the board is spending $1.5 million on golf and hopes to get approval on about $3 million or more for the YC. What person in their right mind would invest close to $5 million on businesses producing a loss of $500,000 this year and a long history of producing losses in the range of $300,000 a year? The answer, of course, is someone spending other people's money. Last year the GM told us he would "close the gap." Didn't happen. In fact, he has probably doubled the loss. Maybe you and other association members are willing to throw your money down the sewer of bad management; I'm not. I've been here over 20 years. At an average combined loss of $300,000 per year, I've seen the OPA board and a parade of OPA General Managers waste $6 million. That is almost enough to replace the Yacht Club and the Country Club...... if OPA had simply broke even on operations for these two "amenities." |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Instead we have well meaning, non-qualified novices throwing out grand schemes costing every association member big bucks Al. Marty's figures are a projected loss of 204000 dollars. As far as big bucks , it comes out to 46,6 cents per week per lot or 24.28 per year per homeowner , not a lot of money and the GM will close the gap in the YC. If not , it still costs less then 25 bucks a week. Not a lot of money, just take some of the profit from the beach club and make it even. No big deal. Bill |
