Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Vote YES on YC Referendum Msg# 839898

The July financial numbers are in for the Yacht Club. Net minus vs. last year -$17,085 or 48.67% worse vs. last year. And that is in one of the two most profitable months of the year.
July 2012 Net $18,021 July 2011 Net $35,106 July 2010 Net $35,725 That being said I am not against a new Yacht Club entirely. I actually like the Yacht Club. I am against building the same or larger until management shows they can manage the business to break even. Until then it is a NO vote for me. It may be as simple as closing the months the club loses money but there has been no sign from our current management that they are willing to do so. Even then the board could open it year round the next season. It is up to the whim of the BOD at the time. My vote no is my message to the BOD to give us better management. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Actually, there is a basis to believe things will get better. For the first time in my memory, we have hired a well qualified manager to run an operation like this. He has only been on the job for a couple of months... but I see positive changes at the Club. In my opinion, the food and service are better and there is more variety. It took us 40 years or do to screw it up so a complete change in two months is not possible. Will it get better? I do not know ... but I am willing to give this significant change a chance to work and I have increased my use of the club on that basis. Hope to see you there sometime. Jeff Knepper |
