Nancy,
The first time I ever used the Beach Club bathroom was in June of 1969. Of course..there was little sand in there because there were not many people using the place. It has changed little since then...except for the nice new sink area and new mirrors. With all due respect, I think a 44 year old underground beach bathroom that lasts 44 years with little changes may be due for an upgrade.
There is only so much you can do to clean off your feet when you are at the beach. I would never think of entering the bathroom with bare feet, so I guess I would need to stop at the shower station, remove my sandals and then wash the sand off from the bottom. I would then walk 3 feet and they would be covered with sand again. I just saw Jack Barnes' post about the OC bathroom replacements and I agree that it's a good comparison. It's nice that you can avoid the busy times at the beach, I assume you are a full-time resident. Part-time residents don't have the same flexibility. I'm not whining, I chose to purchase a home in OP 2 years ago. I love it! I don't know for sure, but I bet that many part-time residents use the beach club heavily while not using the other amenities as much. For the record, I don't believe the Beach Club should be torn down. However, I do believe that an amenity that is used by so many, and accounts for it's own expenses, should live up to acceptable standards. The bathroom is very bad by many standards. Thanks Kevin |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I did not buy a Beach Parking pass this season so I don't know what current conditions are. However, from my past experience, despite the extra effort that was made to keep the drains clean and functional, the bathrooms are dark, dingy, damp and odorous. They lack proper ventilation to say the least. Our Boards and Managements are well aware of this and that is why they had scheduled major renovations a number of times. Norm Hi Norm, The first time I ever used the Beach Club bathroom was in June of 1969. Of course..there was little sand in there because there were not many people using the place. It has changed little since then...except for the nice new sink area and new mirrors. The BEST THING that has happened is that when someone flushes a toilet, the folks who are taking a shower NO LONGER get scalded with HOT WATER! That was a big problem. We had to listen intently for toilet flushes so we could get out of the way in time. One of my daughter's first sentences was "Mommy, Mommy....the toilet, the toilet ...be careful! " The bathroom is underground...and it is very humid in there. Fans are placed in the changing room to help with that. If people would clean their feet off before going into the bathroom...there would not be so much sand. Sometimes it looks like a shovel is needed. There is a hose not far from the door to spray feet off...but I guess you can't force people to use it. Maybe they could work on that. I bathed and dressed my children in that bathroom for many, many years and we survived. You are not in there very long. You use the toilet, take a shower and go to the changing room. I can't think of a way to "renovate" an underground bathroom that would make any sense. That is why they have not done it. It is NOT a place where you hang out. The changing room is not so bad. I am good with the new sink area...and the fact that I no longer get burned, and if I were making the decisions on spending money.....it would NOT be at the Beach Club bathrooms, and I have been a steady customer for 44 years. Fouth of July is a nightmare at the beach and I avoid it. There are too many people trying to use the same space. If you have to go over....late in the day is best. Nancy |
