Let me add one more post then I am bowing out of this debate for now. First of all I am not saying that I am right or anyone here is wrong. What I do believe is that the current losses or "liability" is one part of a much more complicated equation. We know what we wont be maintaining but we don't know the true cost of what replaces that...before any referendum that goes to the homeowners simply on the emotion of saving $1,000,000 much more homework needs to be done. Short term savings does not equal a long term strategic redeployment of the asset. Sure, like most people I would like our annual assessment to be as low as possible, but not at the cost of jeopardizing the long term attractiveness and character of the community. Eventually all of us will be selling our homes (assuming they are not under water from global warming) so our short term interests must be balanced with our long term interests. How many homes actually have golf course rear borders? My guess is it is sizeable. I would like to understand their perspective on this. It is not just a matter of having 200 or so homeowners as members. Is there any other similar communities that have done this and what was the impact? Seems like a reasonable question to help understand more of the equation. I realize that many people live in Ocean Pines and do not take advantage of the amenities. But for many homeowners the amenities are a vital part of their decision to make this their permanent home or their home away from home. It is likely that it was these people who spoke with their vote to approve the new yacht club construction. I know there is a goose debate elsewhere on this forum so I will end with we all (all homeowners) need to have full understanding of the consequences of this decision should it go to referendum...before we potentially kill the golden goose which is the character of OP. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Would open space add value? In my view it would. Open space that is not maintained and policed will attract undesirable elements thus increasing costs to maintain open space Looks like you are asking me to disprove or prove a negative. At any rate, to maintain property values OPA must properly maintain all commonly owned property, be that property a golf course or open space, or a Community Center. |
