Section 5: OPA Board Subject: COPE Golf Petition? Msg# 880521

This question is meant to try to gauge the repeat non member play if the course is up to par but the clubhouse is subpar.
Gosh, let's throw another $4 million or so of assessment dollars into golf. How many millions will it take before that intangible benefit becomes an anchor around our collective necks? OPA is on track to dump $10 million of association member assessment dollars into golf. It is well beyond absurd. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I agree with you John...seems like the petition/referendum is more about putting a bullet in the golf club without much thought about what replaces it, what it will cost etc. I am not opposed to considering well vetted options but this seems like a classic case of emotional backlash to current costs. As I have said previously on this forum this is a huge decision for this community, one of which we have only defined the ramifications as current costs and perceived negative impact to assessment fees. I say perceived because I think there is a fair number in the community that would acknowledge that the Golf Club has a value, intangible or other that is an acceptable price to pay to live and own an home here. I have a question for those that are golf aficionados, how important is the club house to the overall golf experience? When I used to golf more regularly I rarely went into the club house unless it was part of a tourney with food etc.... This question is meant to try to gauge the repeat non member play if the course is up to par but the clubhouse is subpar. |
