Perhaps, but what about drainage? Under Kerry Nelson and prior to 2011, we were receiving around $500,000 a year from the State in pass through gas tax revenue and we were barely able to maintain our roads and drainage for that amount back then.
I don't agree that we were barely able to maintain our roads then. What we did, as a practical matter, was spend much of that money each year in the public works budget and I doubt we ever knew where every dollar was spent. It was a four man team under Kerry Nelson prior to 2012 and very effective I might add. I think you would need to ask the people who saw three feet of water on their streets/lots how effective it was. The major problem area wasn't abated so much by OPA as by the work accomplished as a result of County Commissioner Jim Bunting. It should also be noted that the GM never wanted to credit Bunting because the GM wanted to use the drainage problem as an excuse to buy a golf course. However, taking your comment at face value, what happened to the fulltime four-man drainage team under Kerry if last year the GM wanted to hire four new fulltime people for drainage? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe: "A distinction must be made between costs to pave roads and the cost of drainage" Only since sometime after 2011, before then they were one in the same. In my opinion they are still hand in hand. "OPA now has two full-time employees" It was a four man team under Kerry Nelson prior to 2012 and very effective I might add. "In my view the road paving can be maintained with the casino funds of about $250,000 per year" Perhaps, but what about drainage? Under Kerry Nelson and prior to 2011, we were receiving around $500,000 a year from the State in pass through gas tax revenue and we were barely able to maintain our roads and drainage for that amount back then.
