Watch the video. At one point Dave Stevens comes to the golf item on the agenda and says there is nothing to discuss and starts to move on. Thompson says nothing.

Then Director Sharyn O'Hare says, "Bob, wasn't there something you wanted to say about golf?"

Bob asks, and Dave allows him to speak, certainly not having a clue that the GM would publicly accuse the board of making a mistake. If anything Stevens should be credited with allowing the GM to speak, and also for not allowing the meeting to deteriorate further after Thompson accusations.

This was clearly a setup, most likely discussed in advance, by Thompson and one or members of the minority who were mad that Casper was not selected.
