Sir, I'm sure you didn't achieve the grade of General by always agreeing with your superior officer. To which the General replied: That's right, but that is how I achieved the grade of Major.
A great story. Big laughter here in reading your message. Thanks Carol. We might differ on where we view the GM on the ladder, in this context. I'd say the GM was unwise to issue the challenge, publicly. But the general's comment seemed quite wise. Tom |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I heard a story that was passed around within military circles that applies to this same theme. The General finished briefing his staff regarding his battle plan. He asked if anyone had anything to add or any disagreement with the General's proposed plan of action. A young Captain timidly stood up and began his comments by saying: Sir, I'm sure you didn't achieve the grade of General by always agreeing with your superior officer. To which the General replied: That's right, but that is how I achieved the grade of Major. |
