Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Nonsense Never Stops Msg# 917027

A valued Community Analysis is first and foremost all about the true stakeholders and what they will or will not bear.
Indeed. I really dislike the word stakeholders in the context of this study. Stakeholders is a word typically used to describe those with an interest in the very broadest sense. Even Director Clarke used the word, declaring it was acceptable. He indicated the word for him meant Association Members. However, the question asked in Appendix A was, "Who are the OPA community stakeholders (residents, board, staff, county, etc.)?" The question itself does not even acknowledge association members as stakeholders. Words mean something. The board, as is almost always the case, slow to move and then moves without proper consideration. The phrase, "The devil is in the details," is apparently foreign to board members, at least for the 26 or so years I've been here. With regard to cost, the university is apparently giving OPA a 50% discount from the normal $30,000 fee. This in return for OPA allowing the school to more or less use the results as it sees fit. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe as one who has taught and performed Community Analysis studies I can tell you this. The little you have told us convinces me this isn't a true nor valuable study except for those in power in OPA. A valued Community Analysis is first and foremost all about the true stakeholders and what they will or will not bear. It is quite in depth and takes a fair amount of time based on the size of the community. Generally they are far more in cost than this one is and from other conversations on this forum the record keeping in OP isn't the best or ideal for a study like this one. That means BEACON would be required to did up the information it needs to succeed through various tools they would have to prepare and implement, ie. surveys, interviews of property owners, etc. Rather than ending up with a valuable tool for use of all future BOD's, this is a quick study based on preconceived notions of what this BOD's wants to do. |
