Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Nonsense Never Stops Msg# 917342

Ev, I love discussing OPA politics, but after 26 years or so watching boards operate, no online poll is going to change much, if anything. Any four board members are gonna do what they believe is best.
It is not unusual to OP, but I like to say, "On election day, those elected instantly become smarter than those who elected them." |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Wow! Thank you for such a comprehensive and enlightening response. Unfortunately, I now have legitimate reasons to be depressed about the management or more import the mismanagement of OPA. Your comment about surveys on the Forum being limited to only one question can be overcome with Google Forms. Forgive me if you are aware of this already. The software is FREE, unlimited questions can be constructed collaboratively, unlimited respondents, and it can be embedded in a Gmail or your website, which would seem to address the security issue of only having forum members participate. The URL is as follows: (http://www.google.com/forms/about/). I guess the most disturbing comments in your reply dealt with the apathy or disdain of BOD members towards the sentiments of their constituents. I can understand, at a certain level, that elected officials would not want to engage in a back and forth in such a public forum however having the codified sentiments of a portion of the owners would still be valuable. While the BOD could ignore the expressions of their constituents they would do so at their own peril. Just as important, the results could be made available to BOD candidates and become “talking points” on why they want to seek election to the BOD and what their platform would entail. I’m a firm believer in analysis, advocacy, and action as a force for positive change. Surveying the ownership, even at the Forum level, has benefits and is worthy of additional inquiry. |
