I think the idea of a food truck selling hot dogs in front of the yacht club is absurd but if you have spent any time in a city like New York remember that there are hundreds if not thousands of the small push cart style hot dog vendors so maybe the truck isn't the worst idea possible, can you imagine one of our board members working the "Dog Cart" in the middle of July? Robert
Yes Robert, I have seen the street vendors in NYC and also the lines of vendors on Constitution Ave. near The Monument and over near The National Mall. They are necessary to feed people. OP has a new kitchen, and a lovely waterside terrace, and we have spent 5 million dollars on what should be a lovely spot. I don't want to see TACKY!!! There are good reasons to have Food Trucks at events....but we have a paid staff to cook food and a nice place to serve it. Nancy |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I think the idea of a food truck selling hot dogs in front of the yacht club is absurd but if you have spent any time in a city like New York remember that there are hundreds if not thousands of the small push cart style hot dog vendors so maybe the truck isn't the worst idea possible, can you imagine one of our board members working the "Dog Cart" in the middle of July? Before the new club was built I suggested (tongue in cheek) that we build a new Tiki Bar about three times the size of the one we had and put in a couple of parking pads with utilities for various food trucks to park and hook up, little did I ever dream my nonsense would come to pass. As far as a $50,000 food truck is concerned I suspect it's a used one that is well worn. If the kitchen equipment is shot (remember the new yacht club kitchen equipment fiasco, we don't know good from bad) it could cost $50,000 just to replace it as the equipment in a truck isn't exactly "off the shelf". Something else to keep in mind, if it has on board power you are going to hear the generator, if not then one hell of a long extension cord from the yacht club and lets not forget the two or three 100 pound propane tanks that are usually found in a rack at the back of the truck, a potential disaster to say the least. This whole thing is nuts, I'm a part time so I can't be there for the meeting but I sure hope a bunch of residents attend and raise enough hell about this nonsense to stop it before it starts. |
