OPA has gone totally out of control since Tom Terry first became president and allowed Thompson to do what he pleases. As a practical matter, Tom Terry has controlled OPA for six years. During that long period of near absolute control, Terry has fostered a climate where the GM has taken on more authority than any GM in the history of OPA. It will now be almost impossible to change that.
I see in the Gazette that Larry Perone, an announced candidate for the board, said he is not among those asking for the "GM's head." Incredibly, Peronne says the GM has not been given enough time to show "whether he can do the job or not because the board has just let him run free." Thompson has been running OPA for six years and Perone thinks that is not enough time to make a judgement. So long as Thompson is GM OPA will continue down a path of "bigger is better" and concentration as much on outsiders as on association members. So long as Thompson is GM, OPA will see a constant and never ending battle among the board members about the GM. Such an atmosphere is not good for association members. We need to get back to being an HOA. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Jack and Skip: I really don't know how or exactly when we became the provider of services to non property owners. This is behavior outside of our governing documents. I can certainly use any State park in Maryland because I pay my fair share of taxes, but, why should someone from Snow Hill or Berlin get to use our Ocean Pines parks without any contribution what so ever?
