Section 4: General Subject: Pines Peer Praise Msg# 1020337

If you were just mowing lawns you wouldn’t get a peer praise, possibly a verbal thank you as it’s probably your job. However if you’re mowing lawns and do something not your job that goes above and beyond the normal scope of your job (and I don’t know what that might be off the top of my head mowing grass)
The above looks at odds with the official OPA HR statement as to what would constitute peer praise (commitment is an example): "Examples could be teamwork, safety, service to guests or internal customers, commitment, fiscal accountability or simply a good deed (going out of one’s way, being aware of problem and taking action)." If a peer saw it, they may ask to have one written up on their co worker, they may not. Again, from the official announcement: "While you may not be able to write the Praise Note on the spot, the idea is to recognize the employee that you observed doing the good deed ASAP. Supervisors and administrative staff will have Praise Note Books that you can ask to get a blank Praise Note. You simply write the Praise Note highlighting that which you observed your coworker or 'Peer' doing and give the original white copy to that employee and all other copies to the employee’s supervisor." It certainly appears these forms are to be filled out by the person offering peer praise to a co-worker, not to be filled out by a supervisor for a worker. I'll reiterate, I posted the official statement from OPA HR department and have been asking questions about the official statement. You and I are only engaged in this because you chose to jump in and answer questions I raised, and some answers don't seem to jive with the announcement. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: “You and Colby discuss this as a program that allows supervisors to thank their workers.” It does allow that and also workers or peers in other depts. “If I was mowing lawns would it be appropriate for me to write a PEER Praise Note to the Director of Public Works or the GM?” If you were just mowing lawns you wouldn’t get a peer praise, possibly a verbal thank you as it’s probably your job. However if you’re mowing lawns and do something not your job that goes above and beyond the normal scope of your job (and I don’t know what that might be off the top of my head mowing grass) then if a homeowner saw it they may call PW and tell Eddie who might choose to write it up, giving a copy to the you, one to the GM and one for your file. If a peer saw it, they may ask to have one written up on their co worker, they may not. The person doing the action is the one who gets it, not the supervisor of that person. |
