Joe:
As one would expect you and I were on different sides of this board endeavor. I was elected to the board by the majority of our membership who supported my opposition to this wasteful spending. BTW, for the record, the property sold to a local real estate developer for less then OPA offered. The bank in Hartford County didn’t like dealing with, and I quote, our “amateur“ board. I won’t waste any more time commenting on the ridiculous notion that this property could solve our drainage issues because it doesn’t. Marty |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Darn shame OPA didn’t buy that property, even if a referendum was required to do so. I think it was priced just under $2 million. If we had it now we could get rid of flood water over in that area of the Pines and not be left with an only viable solution of a $20 million or so pipe down Beauchamp Road. (My apologies. The amount a decade ago was $4 million, not $14 and the cost today was estimated to be around $8 million.) Plus, we could now have sold any of that land not needed for our drainage purposed at a profit, or even held it for some future use. As you know, the bank/owner at the time did not accept the offer just under the referendum limit. In fact, your example might be evidence of case for not lowering the limit. |
