I understand your views on the (im)possibility of consensus among the commissioners on this issue. That is why I have advocated moving towards legal action. I view Bright's letter as really a veiled notice of intent to pursue legal action. "and here's the foundation of the OPA suit" If you are correct that some view it as a bluff, I would direct Bright to submit a draft of the proposed suit to the OPA board for approval and then to the commissioners' counsel. I have sometimes found it to be an effective and economical method of driving to a desired conclusion.
Your argument for eventual consolidation "because Fiori wants it and has the votes" is precisely the argument for pressing on beyond hoping for a consensus among those members to favor our position. I think Bertino and Bunting will tell you that they have tried nice and it doesn't work in this case. I am no longer a close follower of the commissioners' actions in general but I do remember that there have been several instances in which roughly the same factions have come together before. Wasn't that the case on the commercial athletic complex proposed for 589? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Other than this itchy feeling in the back of your head that I guess we call intuition, what exactly leads you to the conclusion that all these separate districts will be consolidated? I guess you'd say ease of administration but that won't go through without a fight. And Bright has clearly laid out the foundation for the OPA position Call it a hunch, Ed. It occurs to me that Bertino and Bunting have not endeared themselves to their fellow commisioners thus far. And Bright's letter which clearly absolves them of any of the charges he levels against the others will negate for the foreseeable future any chances they have of being invited for tea and crumpets at the homes of Fiori , Elder et al. And these two are supposed to be our champions in the lists, Good luck with that. They have rendered themselves persona non grata with the very people who they needed to treat with mutual respect in order to engender some cooperation. In this regard they have failed miserably and it is OPA which will bear the consequences. As for consolidation, it will come because Fiori wants it and he has the votes. It is not on its face an unreasonable proposition and has its merits, I suppose. The current hodgepodge of 11 districts just seems to have "growed" with no rhyme or reason and is kind of a mess. As for the bluff. Done at the behest of the OPA who want to be seen as proactive when it is really reactive. It is nothing more than posturing. |
