![]() ![]() Section 23: OPA Elections Subject: Public Vote Count Results Msg# 1224351

The way I read the proposed M06 changes, the Committee is suggesting that the voting results are emailed to the Board of Directors but NOT mailed to all candidates, and announced to the public at the Annual Meeting. That would mean, if you were a Director running for a second term, you would know the results but if you were a new candidate you would have to wait for the Annual meeting.
To further confuse the issue, the Committee has not changed any language regarding recounts so any candidate who wished to request a recount, would have to do so before the Annual Meeting. This would mean new candidates would need to request a recount before they know the results. The President of the Board thinks the Committee is doing a great job. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Hi John. I see the Elections Committee just recently had meeting minutes from November 25, 2024 uploaded to the OPA website. The meeting addressed changes to M-06, changes that would eliminate association members knowing the election count results at the conclusion of counting. This issue of knowing results and ability to observe the counting process was something association members fought for years to obtain. Has this board approved removing the ability of the association members to know the vote results at the conclusion of counting and just after candidates receive the result? In fact, even candidates no longer receive results if the board approved these changes proposed by the Elections Committee. Hopefully, the board has not approved these Draconian changes desired by those individuals on the Election Committee last November. |
