He has investigated privately owned land on 589 as well as the Ocean Pines parcel which was to be auctioned last year. Now that is interesting. If a new northside fire station can be placed on Route 589 commercial land across from the post office, why not just enlarge the existing southside station and keep everything in one place? The travel time for a fire vehicle from the current soutside fire station to the location of a station on Route 589 would probably be three minutes or less. If the northside can be served adequately from Route 589, another three minutes is not going to mean inadequate service from the existing southside station. At one time Jacki Carey said the northside could be adequately served from the southside station. She later changed her mind, based more on political issues than adequate service. Now suddenly the fire department can operate out of one facility on 589? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe: "However, where will the northside fire station be located?" Initially we had hoped, and actually voted to give the OPVFD the land between the existing hall and Ocean Parkway, however, when we had our meeting at the County it became apparent to all that it would not fit at that location. Since then Mr. Englishman has taken up the gauntlet. He has investigated privately owned land on 589 as well as the Ocean Pines parcel which was to be auctioned last year. I think he is currently working with us the feasibility of a piece located at the south east corner of White Horse Park. Marty |
