I cannot say with 100% certainty and maybe Bill Rakow/Marty Clarke can comment but I believe that preliminary meetings have been held with the "permitting gods" down in Snow Hill in an attempt to try to find potential areas of "concern" by those kind folks.

While I could comment on what I know - or think I know - I believe it would be best if the GM through our Public Affairs Department keep the membership informed. There is just too much potential for a misstatement were Marty or I to speak for OPA. BTW, to respond to Nancy Weber's comment on why the site was changed to the other side of WHP, as I understand it the principal reason was that codes require specific setbacks for fire stations and the site next to the CH along the road did not have the depth to allow for that.

From what I remember, those meetings went well and some of the potential "problems" (stormwater management, etc) will not be as "bad" as once thought. I am also not sure what OPVFD has obtained in the way of guidance from their architect with their meetings with the same folks.

If this project goes to referendum (and my 'gut' feeling is, that it will), these are the type of questions that will HAVE to be answered in order to alleviate any fears or concerns about this before the membership will support it.

I am not going to predict whether or not the OPVFD will be able to obtain the permits in a 'normal' matter or not but I haven't heard anything to the contrary.(Yet) Reid
