Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Vote YES on YC Referendum Msg# 839967

our big concern about the whole thing is how the association/bd of directors handled the referendum process.....we don't feel that it is their charge to direct the population in one direction or another with respect to what they feel is the most desirable outcome for every situation....just a fair, unbiased revealing of alternatives would have been sufficient.....it was not necessary to waste more association money trying to get non-resident owners vote yes by inserting the "glossy."
Well, since the board unanimously approved sending out a referendum on a new Yacht Club, why on earth would anyone think the referendum package would include "alternatives?" As for the "glossy" bit, are you really going to base some decision on a new YC on whether or not the board used plain or glossy paper for the photos and other information included with the referendum package? Those who don't trust the board on this, or don't want a new Yacht Club, or want a new Yacht Club smaller than the one proposed, or want a minimal fix-up of the existing building, or any other possible "want" can find any number of credible arguments for their position without resorting to some argument over glossy or plain paper in the referendum package. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: good evenin' joe, after getting our glossy package from the association begging us to go for the big wazoo rebuild, we have a few comments/observations about the whole process. 1. we'd like to thank all the people who have put in the time/effort to attend the meetings and make insightful comments about the whole process, pro or con....(marty clarke, norm katz, as well as yourself provide good point/counterpoint comparisons are ones that come to mind first....there are many others)....we really appreciate you unselfish effort....there are salient points for each argument.... 2. as people who have been here a long time, we're still on the fence as to how we will cast our ballot....but we are well informed with respect to all possible alternatives..... our big concern about the whole thing is how the association/bd of directors handled the referendum process.....we don't feel that it is their charge to direct the population in one direction or another with respect to what they feel is the most desirable outcome for every situation....just a fair, unbiased revealing of alternatives would have been sufficient.....it was not necessary to waste more association money trying to get non-resident owners vote yes by inserting the "glossy." we'd like to know what the cost was to the association for that spiffy package that wasn't needed to get an honest vote from the membership.....actually, the "glossy" may be more apt to make people vote NO just to see what happens next....that would make norm happy!!! have a great weekend, terry |
