I know one group that was happy to see the horse barn go--Taylor Bank. I used to visit with Mike Parks, the branch manager, when he was on the BOD. We'd spend half the time batting away horse flies.
There were very few riders towards the end. The owner was a bit eccentric as I recall. I had several conversations with him because I believe that the land was part of the Chase owned property which I had responsibility for. We eventually donated a part of it to ChopTank for their electric right of way. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Wonder if it would make any sense to convert it to an "executive" par 3 course and turn the rest into a park / nature preserve? What does a rural county like Worcester need a nature preserve for? OP must have 50 acres of parks that are under utilized right now. There aren't many things uglier than an abandoned overgrown GC. There's one outside of Elkton. Godawful looking. BTW - Does anyone know why the equestrian center was closed? The barn was right by the North side entrance if I remember right. Just lack of interest? Seems like a barn and a corral/paddock couldn't have cost much to maintain. That one house by the pond with the raised roof looks a lot like the old barn to me. I drove by there 35 years ago and a spectacular looking young woman was pushing a wheel barrow full of manure out of the barn. I've felt kindly toward horse folks ever since. |
