The courts you are thinking of were part of a swap that I engineered with OP as part of the second turnover agreement in '85. Those courts had great water views that were much more valuable as a residential site. The little "store" was moved to what is now the tennis center on the South side and expanded to what you see these days. In addition, Chase built all of the tennis courts in payment for the land swap. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: L'Hirondelle Club of Ruxton is the first place where I ever played tennis on hartru courts. What amazed me was the white balls did not become dirty. OPA's soft courts are every bit as good as those at L'Hirondelle. Joe Hi Joe, Are the OP "soft courts" that you mention the Har-Tru courts that we had many years ago? A small shop was next to them. I could never understand why the spot was hidden by tall grasses. They were around the corner from where the Yacht Club was later built, and there was a little pond close by. A narrow dirt road led to them and it came out by the pond which I believe is still there.. not far from the road that winds around by condos. There are colonial style homes built in that area now...but the courts could still be nestled back in there too ..I suppose. There were many other tennis courts in OP..but those were the "special" ones. I hadn't thought of them in a long time. Our son loved to play tennis, so we went over fairly often. Nancy |
