Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Board Reps Meet with LU Msg# 938256

I believe association members would be best served by a open space park winding throughout the community
I assume this now 'open space' would be open to and accessible to all the general public, regardless of OPA residence? Open to all Worcester County, State of MD, USA legal/non-legal residents who happen to drive into Ocean Pines? Would access/parking be allowed everywhere along the course or just from the site of the now-defunct Country Club? What if any activities would be prohibited? One only has to visit the OC inlet parking lot during the summer season to see the various practices of groups frequenting the beach. In addition to hanging hammocks, group food festivities; and not being able to restrict certain 'religious/ethnic' beliefs, a group of adults smoking a hookah pipe. Other than obvious criminal activities, would the now-park be open to all types of activities? Most state/federal open space/park lands have rules and regulations, and enforcement. Would the manpower of OPA Police Dept have to be increased to provide patrols? A lot of questions and concerns..............not sure OPA has the 'thinktank' to handle such an opportunity |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: In my opinion our Board will never hold or promote any such referendum. I expect you are correct, but as golf continues to decline, as it probably will, future board may look at it differently. Our latest move was to fire Casper, hire LU, and then LU essentially kept all the people working for Casper. That may be changing now, but that is what happened. And LU's vaunted membership sign-up ability proposed 10 new memberships for the next fiscal year. Now that is real progress.
However, the good news is, you can. Please give me a call when you have your first meeting to raise the $3,000.00 necessary to start the process. You thought I was not aware of the above?? I believe association members would be best served by a open space park winding throughout the community. However, for me it does not rise to the level of the action you suggest I take. I'm not happy with the fed either, but I'm not gonna run for president. However, for anyone interested in pushing a referendum, $3000 is not "necessary." All it takes is about 900 signatures, if memory is correct. Money is just an easier, quicker way to go forward with one. Also, if spending money, in addition to a mailing for signatures, it would be a good idea to spend a few bucks on an attorney to make sure all the language is correct. However, should I or anyone decide to push a referendum via the by-laws, are you saying you would contribute toward any associated costs? |
