Taking an opportunity for funding, whenever, where ever it can become available. Seems a wise step, basing the project on water filtration. Good behind the scenes observation.
Good to think that some relief is occurring for those folks, so they're not hit by runoff overflows from every significant rain squall. And wondering -- is there some means of doing a drain down or pump down, over the following several days, to again lower that pond's water level -- to provide capacity for the next squall's runoffs ?? Thank you Frank, for these insights. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Tom, Here is the most recent information that I have from the last Board meeting…. The Bainbridge Pond drainage improvement project is on schedule and on budget. The project should be completed by the end of June and maybe a bit earlier. As for the budget OP received a grant for $482,337 grant for the work and also budgeted $235,000 in additional funding. It is anticipated that all work will be completed within budget. What most readers do not realize (and I was one of them when the project was first discussed) is that the Bainbridge project is primarily a water filtration effort with drainage benefits a secondary consideration. Tom Janasek explained that to the Board earlier this year. Apparently grants do not exist (or are extremely difficult to secure) for drainage projects. A different story for filtration projects and shoreline restoration such as the Osprey Point project. Even though drainage is a secondary benefit of the project I believe the rain over the past day showed that flooding will be reduced. A post earlier today on Nextdoor has a video of the pond and it appears to have reduced any flooding in that area. The poster commented that there was no flooding on the teens end of Pinehurst. Drainage is a big issue for this community. I have more information I can get to you. If you would like to see it see me an email at fdaly@oceanpines.org and I will get it to you. Frank |
