I did extensive research on effluent in 2020 and 2021. Glen Riddle, Lighthouse Sound and Eagles Run all used effluent irrigation. I was getting answers from John Taulston, Dallas Baker, and John Ross. The Environmental Institute for Golf was also helpful. At that time, the Glen Riddle effluent was good. The current authorized effluent gallon discharge at that time was 700,000 gallons. Glen Riddle was using their pond as a holding well too. I am hopeful that the ponds are still full enough to use to water their course. I do not know if they are using potable water on their course.

The Ocean Pines effluent project was estimated to save 200,000 gallons and effluent would have been able to be sprayed 9 months out of the year. If I remember correctly, Ocean Pines had 5 supply wells and even in February was drawing 900,000 gallons – peak times 2.5 million gallons. I viewed the effluent project as an aquifer protection project. Some places in United States actually have passed laws that the lowest quality of water must be used for watering. I was very disappointed that the County didn’t go forward with it.

The issue with Glen Riddle wastewater treatment is capacity and how it was designed. I believe I recall that it was using a cheaper membrane type system. I have written the Board multiple times regarding the trucks going in and out pumping Glen Riddle waste at the pumping station at the end of Beauchamp Road. Director Monica Rakowski was the only Director who responded and said the Board would look into the situation. This pumping station actually backs up to homes at the end of White Horse Drive. I have not been happy with how the Board has handled the waste situation. This water situation is even more critical. I hope the Board takes action. Until then, I write emails as a concerned homeowner.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where:
I am, like you, a great advocate of using effluent spray irrigation. Still, it comes with limitations as to purity of the plant discharge. Less so in woods; more so on areas that people traverse. You are correct about the quality of our plant's effluent or at least it was the last I heard. How do you know about the quality of Riddle Farms' discharge and is your information current? If, as I've heard, Riddle is or has been trucking waste to our plant, why is that? Is their's maxed out? I guess so...or they've been having water purity problems or even both since one often breeds the other. Remember that the quality of our discharge was affected by an errant rake. Marty is asking a valid question; Is it possible that now, while we are under some water restrictions, that Riddle is using some of our clean water to allow their golf course irrigation.

So you assume the effluent sprayed on their golf course is pure enough to be sprayed on areas that people walk on. And without mixing with clean water from an acquifer. I'd be interested in knowing your current source of that information. I'd also be interested to know why you believe that an email from an individual OP resident asking the questions is a better vehicle than demanding that the OP board of directors' ask those questions forthwith.
