Thanks Ken. Very good citation & confirming the distance of the turbines from shore to be 10.7 miles.
Regarding visibility, Mayor Mehan also pointed out how the height of the turbines planned has increased by startling footage. Although originally to be 550 feet tall, current size is now 938 ft tall. Even that could grow since the newest model turbines are 1065 ft tall. That's more than 3 football fields high. Its more than triple the height of any building in Ocean City. -- Gargantuan. The mayor's letter points to several other turbine projects located 26 miles offshore, including the Virginia and North Carolina projects. Also there's a project already producing energy located 35 miles off the coast of Long Island, Montauk Point, N.Y.. Such longer distances would seem a step towards compromise. For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Do we know the source of that information used by the Mayor? As I read the Mayor's letter, he got his information directly from an environmental impact filing made by US Wind. The Mayor says it can be found in Appendix H on page H-4 of US Wind's filing. |
