Home owners in the town of Ocean Pines would pay city taxes instead of annual assessment fees and taxes would be based on the value of homes, making it more equitable, Stachurski said.

“Today, it is unequal. You have million-dollar properties in Ocean Pines that are paying the same as those with $200,000 properties,” he said

The article and Dan further stated:

Opponents say becoming a municipality would disenfranchise 53 percent of the Ocean Pines property owners who don’t live in the community full time because they would not be able to vote.

“If you want to vote here, you have to verify that this is your residence. Ocean Pines should be for the people who live here, not for the people who own property here,” Stachurski said.

“I don’t want to live in a community where people who don’t live here have any say in how the place is run,” he said.
