I suspect that this is a common malady among Sgt Major types/USAF equivalents who can be every bit and ofttimes more egotistical than General officers.
You may be correct. Senior NCO leadership in any branch of our military are the subject matter experts, and the "go to" people to actually get the job done. I suspect Mr. Thompson, having come to the position of GM directly from being a board member himself has something to do with his "view" as to what the relationship between board member and GM should be. That said, I don't believe Mr. Thompson, when he was a board member, would have welcomed any GM doing what he did this past Saturday. Nonetheless, now that those concerns of the GM are out in the open, I hope the board responds to us (the membership) with assurance that they have indeed accomplished due diligence with regard to hiring a new golf course operator. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: However, as you will note, some on the forum are making half-hearted attempts to defend the GM's actions. Carol does a pretty good job of it IMHO. I'd have to say that the GM is very competent and has done nothing warranting a dismissal but has this maddening need to remind people every so often that he is the smartest guy in the room. I suspect that this is a common malady among Sgt Major types/ USAF equivalents who can be every bit and ofttimes more egotistical than General officers. As for his most recent outburst, I am beginning to suspect that he was put up to it, that it was all preplanned. The "I believe Bob has something to say" from a board member is the clue that the whole thing was staged. And I believe that a former board member who remains on the periphery was in on these machinations. The minority was emboldened by a certain board member's very public nervous breakdown last month and premature admittance that he is retiring from the fray. That was a terrible lapse in judgement because that secure conservative seat is now up for grabs and everyone knows it. |
