My 2 cents...prior to moving to OP I have used boat ramps in PA, NJ, DE & MD. I trailer a small boat. I have always gladly paid $10 to $20 to launch my boat. Now as I live in OP I plan to use the White Horse ramp and am glad I don't have to pay. If I were not a property owner in OP I would expect to pay. I have used staffed launches, honor box launches etc. I am sure there is a way to charge non property owners to use the ramp. There just needs to be a commitment from OPA/BOD management to research and setup the system. When we rented in OP before buying we paid to use pools other than Beach Club that was provided by rental. I would expect to pay for any amenities not included with rental including at the boat ramp. Even at a lake in Millville, NJ I had to display a certificate showing I paid the annual fee.
My guess is most boats are launched before noon so OP Police or someone else could check for passes, see that fees are in honor box etc. Perhaps resident boaters who use the ramp would be willing to volunteer to help setting up a system and assist in control/collection. For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Image below from Steve Payne - Image Title: honor box Image Info: honor box There is a numbered receipt that is hung from rear view mirror, it matches up with the money envelope in the box.At the end of the day an officer can pickup the proceeds from the box.If OP wanted they could also sell a season pass sticker for a fee to those who expected to use the ramp a lot.This could work for both ramps in OP.It might have a little learning curve at first but I think people would catch on...Steve  |
