. . . OR one in which is safe, attractive, and AFFORDABLE for all of our members to enjoy?
Hi Tom Yes yes yes. I fully support the way you've outlined this objective for Ocean Pines. And as I ride around OPines I'm seeing so many many modest homes here. This tells me and confirms the kind of goal you've identified. And as you ride through all of the miles and miles of wooded areas, one can conclude that these modest homes FAR OUTNUMBER the larger, fancier ones along the canals, etc So again, you've put your finger on one of the biggest divergences. Seems there's the faction of big spenders pushing for those fancy costly capital projects, VS the much larger population of modest folks and modest homes. And many of those modest folks are retired and living on fixed incomes. Are you aware of any efforts to urge candidates to come forward for this next election, ones who many recognized the goal you've stated so well here?? With a new attitude and directors, your objective could bring a needed breath of fresh air. We didn't retire here with the idea of footing the bill for a bunch of fancy new facilities, nor a complete makeover of all the community buildings. Its bad enough to be saddled with $$ of a "dying" golf operation. And with a board of directors afraid to pull the plug. No need for a new country club, at a dying golf course. How long are the bleeding of $$ on golf's operational losses and capital expenditures expected to continue, with ineffective tinkering at the margins. Do the referendum, for conversion to a park, nature conserve, playgrounds, hiking trails, etc. Get it done. Get a new objective onto the BOD. Go for it!! A new goal as you've said. But a new country club would be the worst folly ever, of all times, IMO Tom Hemmick (the other Tom) |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Mr. Stone, Your comments are very much appreciated. The next election cycle for the Board of Directors is extremely important as it will provide the direction in which way the community decides to proceed. I urge every association member to take particular interest, vet each eligible candidate carefully, and decide for themselves whom they would best like to represent this community going forward. Does Ocean Pines become a "premier resort community" expending upwards of $30 to $40 million dollars on a new Capital Facilities Plan in the next 10 years, (which, by the way, does not even include the additional cost of depreciation and maintenance), OR one in which is safe, attractive, and AFFORDABLE for all of our members to enjoy? The voters will decide. Sincerely, Tom Herrick |
