Joe, I forgot to answer you last question about the Yacht Club or the drainage. I had many homeowners ask me the same thing for sure. I had many also say we ( OPA ) would spend a million dollars to grow grass for 100 people to hit a white ball around but we would not spend 50 cents to keep there house from washing away! One homeowner told me one time that we spent more on irrigation trying to water the golf course then we did trying to fix a pipe that ran by his house. The words he used I will not post. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Kerry, drainage work has continued as much or more as since you left. the new infrastructure will take the water where it goes now. That is the problem. It now goes to River Run. I am told River Run can take no more. Let's make one thing clear. I am not opposed to spending money on OP drainage. I just want to be sure it is spent wisely. I am not so sure that spending $800,000 on a phase one with no idea at all as to phase 2 is the smart thing without additional planning and review. What assurances are there that a phase one will actually reduce flooding enough to justify the cost? Or reduce the probelm at all? Why lose the grant if it can help with infrastructure? At this point there is no grant. Based on local paper reporting and Commssioner comments, the grant is not coming. Instead, the state will again review and vote/decide on if we get any money. It is not assured. Phase this project out for the next 5 years and it CAN be fixed it just takes effort and time and most of all $$. The above makes no sense. What are you propose to phase out over five years? Do you think the board is going to take a $4 million to $10 million ditch/pipe down Beauchamp Road to referendum? I'd vote YES, if there were no other options. What is more important, an $8 million Yacht Club or solving a drainage problem for 1000 property owners? |
