On the return envelope for the ballot it looks like a upc type code, then immediately to the right of that is the owner's name (or husband's name) and immediately below that a number. Homeowners were crossing out the name. That will apparently invalidate their ballot.
Homeowners found having their name on the ballot unnecessary. A original owner of over 40 years told me she never remembered her name being on the envelope. I've been here 20 years and never remember it. It's not paranoia to expect that a name not be visible on the return ballot envelope. Considering the number of visits and calls Administration staff and the Election Committee are receiving on this matter, this is another hiccup. The number of ballots that will be invalidated because of this will be something to watch. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Another homeowner asked the same question on Get Involved and Stuart Lakernick is reporting that" any marks on the envelope will invalidate your ballot." Why would owners cross out anything on the return envelope? The mailing contractor must be able to identify the property voting to prevent improper voting. That has always been the case. These paranoid rants that the mailing contractor has been told to dump envelopes from certain names is crazy. The name may not be necessary on the envelope but the property voting must be identifiable. I would agree that the names should not have been there but is this some major, outrageous election/ending mistake? Not hardly. There is not even a requirement for a secret ballot, but this election, as well as all others, pretty much results in a secret ballot as the ballots are all separated from the envelopes before counting. The ballots contain no lot or voter info of any kind. Maybe the paranoid will bring up DNA. There are two different issues. Correcting a ballot as directed on the ballot, and crossing out info on the return ballot . Initially I thought you meant the former. Anyone crossing out info on the return ballot should probably have their ballot disqualified. |
