The selection for the first golf contract was chaired by a Board member and to the best of my knowledge the previous GM nor Bob was involved in the selection.
The board member was Pete Gomsak. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Ted Thank you for your response and perspective on this. I am not a Thompson apologist having called him out publicly when I disagreed with him including a full blown fight not that long ago. But stepping back a little and looking at this situation from afar tempers my opinion. However, I must admit your remarks somewhat remind me of Anthony"s remarks in Julius Ceasar by Shakespear. He begins by stating "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him" and then goes on to praise him. First, I am not sure it is true the GM was involved in the process except for one closed board meeting and the public presentation. I thought he was excluded from the rest of the process and only brought in after the vote to participate when it was time to finalize the contract. This is not without precedent. The selection for the first golf contract was chaired by a Board member and to the best of my knowledge the previous GM nor Bob was involved in the selection. The Board member made a recommendation and the Board voted on it albeit in public session. The original vote was 5-2 to give the golf and the food operations to Casper, however, Bob was the GM at that time asked the Board to reconsider the food portion of the contract. The Board did so and voted 6-1 to separate the two and give responsibility for the YC operations to the him. As to the how this selection process went down I cannot say as I was no way involved. I do not have an opinion on the process or your comments pertaining to the process as what I would say would only be conjecture on my part. In addition, while Thompson works at the pleasure of the board he is still an employee, a resident and not a servant or slave. The attitude of some that any GM, past, present or future, has to cower and crawl in front of the board and cannot question or raise issues, even if those issues may place the board in a bad light, indicates a truly dysfunctional organization. I agree but there is a time and place for everything and like you I am not sure this was the time or the place. I was just surprised that he challenged the Board in public as he does not like to be challenged in public and that is all I was addressing. I remember when I was on the Board and Bob was the GM I asked him some questions during a Board meeting regarding a proposal he was presenting. I remember after the meeting in his office he asked me why I would challenge him in public. So while the board may terminate Thompson's contract over this issue, I certainly think it would be a termination for convenience and not cause. I will leave that decision up to the Board, Bob and the lawyers. John |
